A new $158,000 floor was installed Thursday over the rink at Credit Union Place in Summerside.
The subfloor is used for large events, like concerts and basketball games.
For the last few years, Credit Union Place has used a second-hand floor, or rented a more durable one for big events.
The new floor was paid for by the city.
“We've got a professional basketball team in our city, we've hosted some major concerts in the past and it just provides that level of professionalism from just aesthetically,” said Bobby Dunn, the director of the city’s Community Service Department.
Dunn said the new floor will be quicker to install by two or three hours.
“So this subfloor that we're using was purchased several years ago and it's reached it lifespan, so the sub floor that we got now to replace the old one, it's an investment worth making, be used for all future non-hockey events to put over the ice at the Credit Union Place long term.”
Dunn hopes the new floor will encourage more groups to book events at the Credit Union Place.
