Surrey, B.C.'s Highway 15 blocked after semi rolls over
Surrey RCMP say a loaded tractor-trailer was heading southbound on 176 St. near 104 Ave. in Surrey, B.C., around 3:40 a.m. PT Friday when it rolled onto its side.
The driver of the trailer and a passenger have been taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police say the trailer struck the centre lane divider, pushing the barricade into the soundbound lanes. The trailer lay on its side blocking both northbound lanes.
Surrey Fire Service captain Kevin Beenham says the accident happened right after a curve in the road.
"Apparently a tractor-trailer towing a 53-foot dry goods trailer didn’t quite negotiate the curve coming down the hill here and flipped the trailer onto its side along the barricades," Beenham said.
"The trailer’s integrity has been compromised. It’s mainly all dry goods so there’s no acid."
Crews were busy this morning cleaning up the mess before the semi could be righted and towed away.
The two northbound lanes and one southbound lane were blocked during this morning's commute, but are expected to open sometime around 12 p.m. PT while police investigate the incident.
