Suspension extended for MUN coach Doug Partridge

Suspension extended for MUN coach Doug Partridge

The coach of Memorial University of Newfoundland's women's varsity basketball team has been given an extension of his latest suspension.

It's now the third time this month that coach Doug Partridge has been told he will have to sit some games out.

Atlantic University Sports says Partridge will now have to sit out the first two games of the coming winter semester.

It's an extension of a suspension Partridge was handed following a Nov. 22 game in St. John's. Over the weekend, Partridge was accused of making disparaging remarks towards an official during a game against the team from the University of Prince Edward Island.

As a result, AUS said Partridge would have to sit the following game out on Nov. 23.

Now, Partridge has been sidelined for the first two games of 2015 when the Cape Breton Capers play the Sea-Hawks in St. John's Jan. 10 and 11.

Earlier this month, Partridge was suspended for what MUN's athletics department called "inappropriate" behaviour displayed at a game Nov. 15.

During that game, Partridge was yelling at players, and at one point, put his hand on a player's chin to get her to look at him while he was speaking. The player was said to have been visibly upset.

Meantime MUN's communications director Dave Sorensen said a cumulative review of Partridge is underway.

"There is a review ongoing involving the human resources department, the school of human kinetics and recreation and the athletics department," Sorensen said in an email to CBC News, adding he was unsure as to how long that review would take.
