Teacher who sprayed air-freshener on boy suspended

A Newfoundland teacher who sprayed one of her students with air freshener has been suspended with pay from her job, according to a statement from the school board responsible for Twillingate Island Elementary School.

The Nova Central School District also said that a representative from the board met with the student's mother, Patti Rideout, on Monday and issued an apology to Rideout and her son.

Rideout said that her 10-year-old son was sprayed with Febreze by his teacher in early February when he returned to class after eating a lunch of cooked capelin.

Rideout said her son's classmates starting teasing him about the fishy smell. The teacher sent her son out of class for one period and then sprayed the air freshener on him.

Rideout met with the school principal on Monday and asked for an apology. But she said she didn't get one.

Stu Auty, the president of the Canadian Safe Schools Network, believes the teacher didn't mean any harm and probably acted to protect the boy from being teased.

"It was just a matter of a slip-up in probably how they saw things happening," Auty remarked. "They thought they were improving matters."

Still, Auty pointed out, he can understand why Rideout and her son are upset.

"There's also a certain sensitivity that's expected from … teachers regarding any kind of recognition that might be considered negative," noted Auty. "It sounds like perhaps that this is the case but I'm sure that the teacher didn't mean to hurt in any way that child."

This woman employed as a Teacher at the Twillingate Island Elementary School in New Foundland seems to be a BIG BULLY. Not only Patty Rideout I am very hurt too for the nasty treatment given to her little ten year old son, Christian. This so-called Teacher and the Principal (who refused to apologize for the teacher's behaviour) of this Elementary School should be expelled. Are these two women trying to make another little boy commit suicide by this severe bullying? These idiotic people calling themselves "teachers" are a menace to the society we live in. Children are our treasures and should be protected and loved by all concerned. These two school employees have engaged themselves in intimidation and violent bullying of this little ten year old child which is immensely SHAMEFUL. Are these two women calling themselves a "Teacher" and a "Principal" living on tax payers money doing their jobs properly. How many children have they been bullying in the past? They only got exposed this time. Who does not eat fish? Do all people who eat fish get sprayed afterwords? There is a nice polite way of saying things and doing things instead of exposing and ridiculing that little ten year old child. God only knows how some people become teachers. There are real Teachers and false teachers and for them the anagram (the word teacher, rearranged cheater, fits.

You're projecting your own issues with teachers, methinks.

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Paolo Gabriele was always a reserved, almost shy man, as his position required. He had access to the most private rooms in the Vatican's Apostolic Palace - Pope Benedict's apartment. But what could have prompted the pope's butler, who was formally charged by Vatican magistrates on Saturday with illegal possession of secret documents, to betray the man who trusted him? Was it money? Probably not. ...

Iran has enough uranium for 5 bombs: expert

VIENNA (Reuters) - Iran has significantly stepped up its output of low-enriched uranium and total production in the last five years would be enough for at least five nuclear weapons if refined much further, a U.S. security institute said. The Institute for Science and International Security (ISIS), a think-tank which tracks Iran's nuclear program closely, based the analysis on data in the latest report by the U.N.
