Teachers' union confirms job action

Saskatchewan teachers will be off the job for one day Thursday during a job action announced Tuesday by their union.

Confirming what teachers had been told earlier this week, the Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation said that all members will be withdrawing services in order to take part in study day and rally.

Members approved a strike mandate last week, voting 95 per cent in favour of job action that could range from a partial withdrawal of voluntary services to a full-scale walkout.

Contract negotiations have been going on for 11 months, with wages being a major sticking point.

On Thursday, teachers will attend study sessions around the province. Regina and area teachers will also rally at the legislature.

Teachers will be back in the classroom on Friday, the STF said.
