Teen 'heroes' help elderly woman from burning house, witness says

An elderly woman was taken to hospital following a fire Thursday afternoon on Lorne Street North in Regina.

Two teenagers in Regina are being hailed as heroes for helping an elderly woman from a raging house fire Thursday afternoon.

The fire, at 211 Lorne St. N, was reported around 3:55 p.m. CST.

A passerby, Dale Lakeman, told CBC News that even before fire crews arrived, two youngsters from a nearby school were on the scene to help a woman who had been inside.

"They're the heroes in the whole situation," Lakeman said of the unidentified youths. "They were helping her ... and it was great."

Fire officials said a woman had been taken to hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

Lakeman said flames were shooting out of the house until fire crews were able to douse the fire.

There was no word on the cause, but damage was described as extensive.
