Timothy Chu, missing scuba diver, found dead near Race Rocks, B.C.

The body of Timothy Chu, a British police officer missing since he went scuba diving near Victoria on July 5, has been found near Race Rocks, the B.C. Coroners Service has confirmed.

Chu, 27, was on a dive with the Ogden Point Dive Centre at Race Rocks, a marine ecological reserve near the eastern end of Juan de Fuca Strait, when he got separated from the divemaster and failed to surface.

A massive search in the following days failed to find any trace of Chu and efforts were eventually suspended.

However, Chu's family launched an online petition urging both Canadian and U.S. officials to continue the search and offered a $2,000 reward for information leading to his recovery, "dead or alive."

According to a statement from the B.C. Coroners Service, Chu's body was eventually found by a fisherman, who spotted it off a buoy near Race Rocks on Sunday.

Race Rocks is at the most southerly tip of Vancouver Island and is subject to extremely strong tidal currents.
