This Tiny Shetland Pony Stunned Her Owner By Giving Birth To An Even Smaller Foal

A tiny Shetland pony has unexpectedly given birth to an even smaller foal.

Cherry may be just 35-inches tall, but she’s now towering over and doting after her adorable new baby.

Aberdeen-based owner David Reid said he had no idea that his pet was even pregnant.

But on Monday, staff at her stable were stunned to see her miniature offspring stumbling around a field.

They soon put two and two together, and realised what had happened.

“I have been breeding them for 20 years and I have never seen anything like it. We all got quite a shock,” said David.

The new arrival, who is currently just 17-inches tall, has been named Toffee.

David doesn’t know how Cherry became pregnant, but suspects it was when she was reunited with the male horses in the stable.

And he say Toffee is just adorable.

“She’s got lots of character already for being so tiny. We went to catch her and she was kicking out, as if to say ‘leave me alone’,” David added.

The world’s smallest miniature pony was born in the U.S. five years ago and weighed less than a new-born human baby.

Einstein the Shetland pony currently holds the record after measuring just 14 inches tall and weighing just 6lbs at birth.
