Part of the Trans-Canada Highway that was shut down near Elie, Man., on Monday afternoon has reopened to traffic.
RCMP said shortly after 1:30 p.m. CT that they were closing both westbound lanes of Highway 1, about eight kilometres east of Elie, due to smoke from grass fires.
The smoke was reducing visibility in the area, raising safety concerns, an RCMP spokesperson said.
The provincial Infrastructure and Transportation Department announced an hour later that the affected section of the Trans-Canada is open to traffic again.
Elie is about 45 kilometres west of Winnipeg in south-central Manitoba.
