Truck destroyed by fire on Route 2 near Milton Station

A truck hauling potatoes is a total loss after it caught fire Sunday morning along route 2 near Milton Station, P.E.I.

According to RCMP Const. Jamie Parsons, the fire was reported at 7:09 a.m.

"It was fully engulfed," said Parsons.

Driver shaken, but not injured

According to RCMP, the driver of the vehicle heard a loud bang underneath the truck and began to lose control of the steering.

Parsons said the driver believed an axle had broken and when he exited the truck, he noticed the vehicle was on fire.

The North River Fire Department responded to the scene. Parsons said the driver was shaken but not injured.

The highway was closed for public safety but reopened later Sunday morning.

Parsons said there is nothing suspicious about the fire.
