Truck driver charged after getting stuck at Ruth St. underpass

A truck driver got himself into a tight spot in Saskatoon today.

A vacuum truck was lodged under the Idylwyld Drive overpass at Ruth Street just before 1 p.m. CST this afternoon.

The truck was stuck at the underpass for about three hours. Saskatoon fire crews were forced to clean up hydraulic fluid at the scene.

Crews were able to get the truck out of the way at about 4 p.m., just before rush hour.

No one was injured.

Police said the driver inadvertently left the hydro-vac tank in a raised position, causing him to get stuck.

There was minimal damage to the overpass, but the truck was significantly damaged.

The 55-year-old driver now faces charges of driving without due care and attention.

Photo-takers slapped with tickets

While dealing with the stuck truck, Saskatoon Police also handed out several tickets to other drivers in the area.

Police said they issued six tickets to people for using a hand-held devices while driving.

Four of the same drivers were also ticketed for not wearing seatbelts.

Another driver was charged with driving through a restricted area.

In a news release, police said they wanted to remind the public not to take pictures while driving and to always wear a seatbelt.
