Unwanted guns not for the police station says officer
If you have unwanted firearms you're trying to get rid of, police say there's a way to go about it — but bringing them to your local police station or community policing office isn't it.
"Lately there have been several instances where staff at our front counter were approached by persons carrying a firearm," says North Vancouver RCMP Cpl. Richard De Jong.
"These situations were considered a potential threat to the safety of our staff."
De Jong says for the safety of the public and the police, people are asked to phone the police station and make arrangements for an officer to pick up the weapons.
He says police still want to encourage people to turn in their unwanted firearms.
"Unwanted weapons consistently represent a potential hazard to both public and police officer safety," says DeJong.
"Police often see the devastating consequences of firearms not properly stored or falling into the wrong hands."
