Vaughan café shooting: Police release clearest image of suspect so far

Police have released a new video and images that give the clearest picture to date of the suspect in a Vaughan, Ont., café shooting.

The York Regional Homicide Unit released the new video on Tuesday afternoon in hopes the public will be able to identify the suspect in the shooting that killed 2 at the Moka Espresso Bar café on Islington Avenue last week.

The suspect is described as male, black, six-feet with a muscular build. In the video, which is from the day before the shooting, he appears to be wearing a blue Blue Jays baseball cap and a grey Jordan-brand top.

In previous images the man's face is covered by a mask, he is wearing a hood and gloves and he never faces the camera.

On Wednesday, June 24, at 8:18 a.m., police responded to reports that four people had been shot at the café near Highway 7.

Two victims were pronounced dead at the scene: Maria Voci, 47, and Christopher de Simone, both of Vaughan. Two other men were taken to hospital and will survive.

The suspect is considered armed and dangerous. Police are asking the public to call 911 immediately to report any sightings of the suspect or his vehicle, a 2011 black, Nissan Versa with licence plate BVLW 273.

The man was last seen driving south on Islington Avenue away from the scene of the crime. Police say the car was stolen.
