Two men who have shown up in a surveillance video may have information crucial to the investigation into the homicide of a young Surrey, B.C., woman, police say.
The two men are seen entering a building at the Simon Fraser University campus in Surrey just after 1 a.m. PT on Sept. 28, about the time that Maple Batalia was shot and killed in a parking lot at the school.
“These persons are not suspects in this crime, but may have information from before, during or after the crime that could possibly assist IHIT investigators." says Sgt. Jennifer Pound of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.
Batalia, 19, had been studying in the university’s library with friends and was alone and on the way to her car when she was shot. Batalia died a short time later in hospital.
“Maple died a tragic death and police are asking you to do your part in assisting with this investigation by forwarding any and all information you have,” said Pound, in an appeal to the two young men in the video.
“We are asking you work with us to ensure this doesn’t happen to any more innocent victims.”
About ten days after the slaying, police released other university surveillance video from a camera outside the school showing a white car leaving the scene at high speed. Police said the vehicle was a late-model white Dodge Charger.
There have been no arrests in connection with Batalia’s killing.
