I admire Jack Layton for his diligence but Mr Lewis' eulogy sounded like a speech for a ndp political convention. It was a funeral celebration not a rally for the ndp party. Also the donations given to Mr Broadbent's foundation should have been given to the cancer society.
There is something very strange here.

Not so strange...political opportunism and greed.

That will be the day I waste my tears for a politician, especially a socialist. I save my tears for family and friends. I never liked Layton or his politics when he was alive and I'm not about to change. The NDP used his death as a political weapon and milked his passing for all that it was worth for political gain, in other words Canadians were held hostage while this charade went on for a week which never seemed to end. It was all done to appease the socialists especially Quebec. Layton is not the messiah and will not be part of the 2nd coming. This waste of taxpayers money was ridiculous, we even paid for the new HST applied to funerals in Ontario.
They call him Canada's Diana, how stupid is that statement, now Layton is a player on the world's stage. Will martyrdom or Sainthood be far behind for this crooked communist politician.
Last but not least he pulled the wool over a lot of eyes, when he died, the wool was replaced with kleenex.

@May if your looks were comparable to your stupidity you would be some hideous. Layton was a conservative right ? You stupid humanoid. And, what ever century I live in it's centuries ahead of yours.

Wow- reading these comments make me realize just how many idiotic, rude, selfish, thoughtless and petty people the are out there. People seem to think that if you disagree with someone you also have the right to disrespect and belittle them. Shame on you. Know that your comments reveal you for your true selves- and that is a sad sad thing.

I couldn't agree more! These comments are a disgrace,, no respect for the, not even for the opinion of others.. These remarks would make me feel ashamed to be Canadian If I thought they represented the majority of Canadians. Shame on you, I second that!

So, if I agree with you it is ok, but if my opinion differs from yours, I am rude, selfish, etc. True NDP ideology at work here.

i did not agree with jack layton on most issues. just because i disagreed with him does not mean i did not respect him. he worked very hard to bring the ndp to opposition status. actually, mr layton is not the first ndp leader to have my respect. both ed broadbent and audrey mclaughlin also had my respect.

let's not make him a saint, but let us recognize a hard working man who cared about canada and did what he thought was right to make canada a better place.
    • dawn, 9 months ago
Problem is, I do not think any of his 'hard work' was for us. it was all about power and his own aspirations. I respected Audrey and Ed. They did not ry to sell out our country and liberty to the highest middle eastern bidder.

I think a lot of people are just judging him poorly because they are probably whiney little Liberal losers and are boo hooing the fact that Canadians gave the Bloc and there precious money grubbing Liberal party a total thrashing!! I must say I disagree with most of Jacks political platforms IE. free housing for the terminally lazy, free crack pipes and heroin for the walking dead. etc. BUT I admire the unabashed conviction to those platforms he held close to his heart. He honestly believed it would help. To that I tip my hat to the honorable Jack Layton. Leader of the opposition. His message was a very expensive one , one that would've bankrupt the country, but it is very nice to hear someone think it is a good idea.it sounds like rainbows and unicorns flying on a bed of duck down to a river of flowing chocolate.mmm chocolate.

Does anyone other than me wonder what the big secret about his cause of death is all about? He was quick to point out his prostate cancer, why the secrecy now?
  • The Dude  •  9 months ago
Yes Stephen, Jack tried to turn Canada into Greece. Our children are safer now.
  • Stephen Lewis  •  9 months ago
what a pathetic eulogy from stephen. clearly politically motivated.

Is it finally over?? Lay the guy to rest and get back to serious things. He was a politician, not a saint. He used the system when ever he could.

We need a strong NDP in Calgary. We are sick and tired of the Conservative Pary and their garbage! There is no strong presence of the NDP or liberal Party in my province that is why we continue to have Harper here...time for a change!!!

Would have been a lot cheaper and easier on the country if they had just shipped him off to be taxidermied. At least that way, he could lie in a perpetual state of repose at ndp headquarters and never be totally forgotten - just like vlad lenin.

After all, who can argue that the two don't bear a striking resemblence - plus or minus the neatly trimmed and pointed goatee.

jack layton was a cancer on the country
  • The Dark Knight  •  9 months ago
I did not like his politics, but I respected the man. In the same way I respected Lucien Buchard for what he was able to do. They kept everyones feet to the fire and made you earn what you wanted to do. Stop being so full of hate all of you who say all politicians lie. Get off your ass and try running for office and wait for all of the hatred to be thrown at your pathetic ass!
