THE QUESTION:
Did the developer or owner receive any tax payer dollars or any other kind of subsidies to develop the former property to its current state?

If the answer to that question or any other question regarding funding is "yes" then there is a very good chance that litigation is to follow and that fines and/or prosecution are in order.

If there has been no public financing of this then it's fair play to the developer.

Everyone is entitled to their own say. By the same reasoning, everyone is allowed to charge any rate for any product or service. No one is forcing the loyal Canadians or foreigners to pay such prices. Whoever wants to and can afford to will pay. I seldom hear local folk showing apathy for 3rd world countries and for people living in landfills and poverty driven areas. Us Westerners have a choice at all times. If its so damn tough and expensive here, then take your tail to somewhere more befitting where you can make more and spend less. For all the people complaining: Remember! You always have a choice. Just cause you have only cereal available for breakfast doesn't mean you have no choice. You always have a minimum of 2 choices. 1: Have the cereal and be thankful. 2: Don't have the cereal and bitch. Choose wisely my good peepz! BAM!!!!

It is about time to the Government to step down and protect the people, they must implement rent regulations in favor of the low income. How they can afford this very expensive apartment? It is rediculous, upsetting to the people of Vancouver. Only the chinese rich can afford to live here. No wonder they called this place Hongkover and not Vancouver anymore. Better for the people to move out of Vancouver and live this place to the Chinese who control the price of the Housing. They are monopolizing the business and give more favor to the Chinese themselves. Never patronize the Chinese product, as one of the protest the people can do. Canada is a very large Country, you have a lot of options, so think of moving out of that place.

They were living in a dive, they were happy there... their home was "condemed" by the gov't because the gov't said they couldn't live there. Gov't sold the home and the corporation built ultra tiny crap homes and jacked up the rent by 1200%

It isn't just that it's $850 for 200-300feet - it's the fact that it is price gouging. The government needs to bring in rental controls on what people can charge for apartments in Vancouver. It's disgusting that the average person - that's working person - cannot afford to live in the city. And if you have a pet - you're relegated to the nether reaches of Whalley or getting gouged in the city. It's time the renters of vancouver started a coalition to force the government and property developers and owners to make things accessible to the average working people.

Builders think these chinese are small in size there fore make small appartments and charge them high price because they bringing black money here. These chinese , jews and Muslims making every one's life hell. People are crazy to buy so small Appts. don't buy and see what builders do.
