Oh yippee, another grandstanding teenager. Bet she thinks it'll look good on her Facebook page. Wonder what the anti-Conservatives here would be saying if it was a Liberal or (God forbid) NDP throne speech...they'd be calling for her head.

Don't speak for other people. You sound like an idiot.
    • I WALK WITH THE LORD 11 months ago
You mean like you're doing right now?
    • Igginbottom's Wrench 11 months ago
No he doesn't sound like an idiot. He's right. It was a self-important move on this girl's part. It was opportunistic and inappropriate to do during a throne speech.

    how can 39%be a majority----should be 51%
    • Brian M 11 months ago
This "rallying call" which keeps coming up is hardly original. There is no need for a 50% + 1 majority because Canada is governed by a plural system, not a 2 party government.
Our current electorate is a joke anyways - how else can you explain 7 electoral districts for Newfoundland and Labrador; 4 for PEI; 11 for Nova Scotia and 10 for New Brunswick? Come on - a combined 32 electoral districts for a region of Canada that just barely makes up half of the population of BC, yet only has 4 less seats than that province? Fix that first, and then we can talk about democracy.
    • voice of reason 11 months ago
A 51% majority is only for 2 parties, with 3 plus parties a majority is the greatest number. But nice try, it is a majority goverment because we won greater than 50% of the seats.

How come Harper gets away after being found guilty of contempt of Parliament and this person doesn't?
    • down_with_debt 11 months ago
i don't think you understand the meaning of contempt in this context.
    • hughtrafalgar 11 months ago
I don't think YOU do, Brain Surgeon.

It's called a difference in pay grade.

HT, are you seriously comparing the Prime Minister of Canada to a fucking 21 year old page who can't think straight? Really? You're delusional. The Prime Minister of Canada didn't give dollar figures to a stupid asshole visiting professor, thankfully. She had NO business doing what she did, and deserves to be charged for what she's done

    • Cliff-Terry 11 months ago
I make more money in one month than you earn in a year. So anytime you want to earn more than minimum wage buddy, call me, I might have an opening for you to sweep my floors.
    • nescio 11 months ago
Cliff-Terry; yeah you're real hard... whahahahahahahah. You know what is so pathetic about the type of mails you and your buddies write? You're against the grain so as to get attention. The problem with you illiterate nazis is that if one has seen one of the comments, you've seen them all. They are all much of a muchness. (always insulting people, always harping on about left and right (whist anyone with half a brain knows there is but middle in Canada; a vast wasteland of nothingness) Needless to say, writings by you and your pals are always full of typos, as in pro usual, but really, you want someone to hold your hand and say: there there... pathetic! Hard nut, well lets leave the hard out... whahahahahah!

@ Tiquilla Rocks, You are an unintelligent one. I was born and raised in a third world country and I know what dictatorship and tyranny means. I urge you to visit any one of these country, there and then, you will realize what a true democracy is. A freedom to speak your mind without fear of repercussion, a freedom to dream, etc. Though she might have done it at the wrong place.
Your comment is way over the top. Maybe you should get that thick belt first, then recommend it. This young lady is brave, unselfish (thinking about her generation) and more intelligent than you.
'You never know what you have until you lose it', and Canadians are fast losing it when one no longer have a freedom of opinion.
    • nescio 11 months ago
Framarlowe, did you read up on Harper and the Northern Foundation? What this young woman did was just. Read about it and weep!
    • A Yahoo! User 11 months ago
      Framarlowe,

Like a coward, you fled the dictorship and tyranny in your nation. My people didn't we fought tyranny and we won, 3 civil wars for freedom in Britain. We built something great proven by the fact that you ran here to hide and live off what I built. My country has a democracy and my people have spoken, they wanted Harper. That Page had her chance to convince people of her view point during the election, she still has everyday on her own time to convince them. People didn't agree then and they don't agree now.
    • xyxy 11 months ago
I see this all the time. People leave oppressed countries to come to Canada then fall into the trap of wanting socialist policies that contributed to the demise of their own countries which they left. Only when you learn that dependancy on government is what leads to dictatorship will you understand what the conservatives are all about. Democracy is the right to be independant instead of the right to dependancy.

Suck it up Cry babies, The people spoke and the cons won. Now you Bleeding hart social program supporting cry babies are made. Grow up. Tell me those of you whom want all these social programs how will you pay for them? Higher Tax ? Look at Germany it was and is a social program leader and the tax are 19% . I dont want my middle class family income supporting more welfare and social programs and sick immagrants and there families. If people are so hard up its there fault ( yes there are exceptions and i understand that) but if you dint get a good education Is that my fault? If you cant get a good job is that my fault? Why should i pay?

SUCK IT UP. Once all these students get out of school and get jobs we will see how eager they are to pay for social programs.

    Harper rule for eva.
  • james  •  11 months ago
Good for her! That took alot of courage. I disagree with the name calling here. To me, it's nothing more than bullying and not worth focusing on. Not that long ago, there was alot of talk about how to get youth involved. So now it's only good if they agree with Harper? I applaud her!

  • hughtrafalgar  •  11 months ago
Her name is: Brigette Depape and she had a press release as well:

"Harper's agenda is disastrous for this country and for my generation," DePape said in the release. "We have to stop him from wasting billions on fighter jets, military bases, and corporate tax cuts while cutting social programs and destroying the climate. Most people in this country know what we need are green jobs, better medicare, and a healthy environment for future generations."
  • pickettsb  •  11 months ago
Hmmm...fired for having an opinion....that sounds like harpo-government....
  • A Yahoo! User  •  11 months ago
A job is NOT a democracy. If you spit on your boss at work then your boss is going to fire you. Harper is the boss, the Canadian people have spoken and made his conservatives our government.
  • Brian  •  11 months ago
None of the Lefties recognize the delicious self-absorbed irony of their hysteria/paranoia. By their deeds and words, they advocate precisely that which they fear from their opponent. This Page’s actions were disrespectful of the democratic process at the least, and wantonly callow at the worst. Truly shameful conduct and a black page in our parliament’s history.
  • Honey Sweet  •  11 months ago
i vote for the page! get HAARPer out ov there. take back the power for the people!!!

    Brigette DESERVES a Medal.

    YOU GO, GIRL!
  • Thomas  •  11 months ago
That a girl! Be proud! F@#k Harper and all the white scared christians that support him. You're next.
  • hughtrafalgar  •  11 months ago
The release said she was a page for a year but realized that working in that job "wouldn't stop Harper's agenda."

"This country needs a Canadian version of an Arab Spring, a flowering of popular movements that demonstrate that real power to change things lies not with Harper but in the hands of the people, when we act together in our streets, neighbourhoods and workplaces."
  • comment  •  11 months ago
She is fired for this. Is it a good sign of democracy! She just expressed her opinion. Not sure, under which rule/law she can be fired. But every body should be able to exercise their freedom of right and speech.
  • pickettsb  •  11 months ago
No...no....no...this is harpo-anada....you will NOT have the freedom of thought and action...reform to the reform party....assimilate....think like he thinks or perish...heil harpo!
  • Chachi R. Cola  •  11 months ago
Totally respect you Bridgette! You showed class and dignity while expressing your right to free speech. Raising a sign doesn't "interrupt" or show disrespect to the proceedings like the conservatives think. Johnston kept going on because you didn't prevent him from doing so. You made a point in a restrained way, without shouting or name-calling, like most politicians do everyday. The right-wing will condemn you for daring to express your views in a "democratic" society. But conservatives are self-serving hypocrites by nature. You're better than Harper anyday!
