WAM picks: Alice in Bowring Park and a marathon of art and music

All weekend: The 2014 Art Marathon Festival - The annual celebration of contemporary art and contemporary fun continues all weekend at the Eastern Edge Gallery and venues around St. John's. It culminates with the 24-Hour Art Marathon from noon Saturday until noon Sunday at Eastern Edge, followed by the exhibition and silent auction.

Alice in Wonderland - An outdoor musical theatre show presented by Best Kind Productions at the Cabot 500 Amphitheatre at Bowring Park. Playing Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 6:30 p.m., with matinees on Saturday and Sunday at 2:00 p.m.

The Shed Island Music Festival - An independent festival showcasing bands from Eastern Canada and a multitude of local acts. Friday's show at the Fat Cat includes Mouthbreakers and Make Mean Everything. The Saturday show at Distortion features Surveillance, Coach Longlegs, and Surrogate Activity. Music starts at 10:30 p.m.

Random Sound Music Festival - Featured acts include Ghostface Killah, Classified, Wintersleep, Baytown, Green and Gold, and more. The stadium show is at The Glacier in Mount Pearl, Friday at 7:00 p.m. The club show is at Allure on George Street, Saturday at 10:00 p.m.

All's Well That Ends Well on Signal Hill - Shakespeare by the Sea presents shows on Friday and Saturday at the Signal Hill Tattoo Field outside the interpretation centre. Prepare for the elements by bringing a blanket, sun hat, seat cushion, etc. Showtime is 6:00 p.m.

​Saturday: A Construction of Faith - A one-man play and escorted tour of the Basilica of St. John the Baptist. See the Basilica through the eyes of the man who dreamed it into existence. The performance begins at 2:00 p.m.​

Saturday: The GEO Centre Big Summer Bash - With a barbecue, photo booth, bouncy castle, face painting, science demonstrations and more. At the Geo Centre from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with the barbecue from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Sunday: Storytime in Bowring Park - With this week's storyteller, Dale Jarvis. Tales for children aged five years and older. Gather at the Peter Pan Statue in Bowring Park at 2:00 p.m.
