The cause of a house fire in Winnipeg that claimed the lives of five people will go down as undetermined.
The Arson Strike Force has wrapped up its investigation of the Jan. 24 blaze at Woodlark Place in the city's West Kildonan area.
It found the fire started in a couch in the lower level of the home.
"However, without any specific information about what was happening inside the home at the time of the fire, investigators were not able to determine the exact events that lead up to this fire occurring, and therefore were unable to definitely determine the exact cause of the fire," stated a news release from the Office of the Fire Commissioner.
"The investigation is now concluded. The cause of the fire will be recorded as un-determined."
Hamid Farooq, who was working on the night of the fire, lost his wife Zebunesa Sadiq, 33, his mother Shemeem Akhtar, 60, and his daughters nine-year-old Fayza Peyawary, four-year-old Aliza Sadiq, and four-month-old Hoorya Farooq.
