    Winnipeg's Mariaggi listed among world's romantic hotels

    This Valentine's Day, a hotel in Winnipeg has been named one of the most romantic in the world.

    Mariaggi’s Theme Suite Hotel, in the city's historical Exchange District, is listed by TripAdvisor travel website as one of the world's Top 10 romance hotels.

    It is the only Canadian hotel on the list, which includes a handful from French Polynesia as well as Fiji, St. Lucia, Hawaii, Greece and Mexico.

    "It was shocking to me, I'll tell you, and my family. We had no idea," said Mariaggi owner Don Laluk.

    "That's what's so incredible, is that we're on the same page as all those multimillion-dollar places."

    The Travelers’ choice romance hotel list was determined by the reviews and opinions posted on TripAdvisor, measuring highly-rated hotels commonly marked as ‘romantic’ by travelers.

    The Mariaggi's rooms include themes based on an African safari with a grass-thatched hut, statues and artwork; A Hawaiian getaway with a jacuzzi tub surrounded by lava rock and tropical plants; a Saharan oasis with palm trees and a sheik's tent; A Roman room with a grape vine canopy; and a Japanese room with a flowering tree, garden and samurai statues.
