After a mild few weeks, winter returned to Quebec on Friday, where 15 to 25 centimetres of snow are expected to fall in Western Quebec and Montreal overnight.
Snow began falling Friday afternoon, causing traffic delays in and around the island, and delaying flights at the Trudeau Airport.
The worst of the storm will hit eastern Quebec, where up to 30 centimetres of snow could fall by the time the storm passes Saturday morning.
“Quebec City and east, tomorrow it will be really, really bad,” said René Héroux, a meteorologist with Environment Canada.
A snowfall warning was issued for much of Quebec Friday as the low-pressure system moved its way up from the American Midwest
Héroux said motorists in eastern Quebec can likely expect road closures into the weekend as the accumulation makes driving hazardous.
After a generally mild winter, it’s important that people remember to take precautions if they’re headed out in the storm, he said.
“We are not used to that this winter - that's for sure,” he said. “That's why it might be important not because of the system itself, but the fact we didn't get many of those this winter.”
