2 dead, 2 injured after collision in Strathmore

Two people are dead and two others are injured after an early Sunday morning collision on Highway 1 in Strathmore.

Strathmore RCMP and emergency crews attended the scene of the collision on Highway 1 east of Spruce Park Drive at 4:13 a.m.

According to RCMP, a Porsche SUV crashed into the rear end of a Ford Expedition. Two occupants of the Expedition died — a 59-year-old female driver, and a 33-year-old male passenger.

A third adult male passenger was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries. All occupants of the Expedition were from the Wheatland County area.

The driver of the SUV was also transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Traffic going eastbound on Highway 1 was diverted for several hours while an investigation took place, but was reopened as of 3 p.m. Sunday.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the incident, according to RCMP. No other information about the collision was immediately available.
