Man charged with careless driving in fatal Clarence-Rockland crash

A 53-year-old man was charged with careless driving in a two-car crash that killed a 23-year-old man south of Clarence-Rockland, Ont., east of Ottawa, on Wednesday morning.

It happened at 6:45 a.m. on Joanisse Road at the intersection of Vinette Road, causing road closures for seven hours, OPP said.

Alex Chantigny, 23, was travelling south on Joanisse Road at the wheel of a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire when he was hit by a 2014 Hyundai Elantra travelling west on Vinette Road, police said.

His passenger and the 53-year-old driver of the Hyundai were taken to hospital with injuries that aren't considered life-threatening.​
