1 dead in second fatal collision Saturday near Boyle

One man is dead after a fatal collision near Boyle, Alta., on Saturday.

Boyle RCMP were called to a collision at 12:30 p.m. between two trucks on Highway 663, 20 kilometres east of Boyle.

A truck travelling eastbound swerved in front of a truck traveling westbound, causing the collision. All three occupants were taken to hospital.

The driver of the eastbound truck, a 75-year-old man from Lac La Biche, died from his injuries in hospital. Another occupant of that truck suffered serious life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital by EMS.

Earlier Saturday, police were called at 10 a.m. to two separate collisions at the intersection of Highway 63 and Highway 55, 15 km north of Boyle. A total of eight vehicles were involved in the two collisions.

In the second crash, a 39-year-old man from Grande Prairie died in a four-car collision involving a van, two trucks and a semi-trailer.

Heavy fog in the area had police urging drivers to adjust their speeds.

RCMP are continuing to investigate the Highway 663 crash.

Boyle is about 150 kilometres northeast of Edmonton.
