One person is dead after driving off the road in Lexington County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

A 2016 Ford Explorer was heading west on Westwoods Drive on Friday, near Distant Lane, about one mile from Chapin. Officials said the SUV drove off the left side of the roadway, struck a mailbox and an embankment before overturning.

The driver, who was wearing a seat belt, was injured and pronounced dead at the scene. Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher identified him as Christopher Lee Morris, 37, of Little Mountain.

The crash remains under investigation.
