A 73-year-old man from La Broquerie, Man., is dead after two vehicles collided on a rural highway Thursday afternoon.

Manitoba RCMP said a 38-year-old man was driving south on Highway 12 around 1:35 p.m. when his vehicle collided with an SUV travelling west at the highway's intersection with Provincial Road 210. The intersection is near Ste. Anne, about 40 kilometres southeast of Winnipeg.

The 73-year-old man was a passenger in the SUV. The vehicle was being driven by a 73-year-old woman and had another 72-year-old female passenger, both also from the rural municipality of La Broquerie.

The elderly man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both women and the driver of the other vehicle were taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

STARS Air Ambulance airlifted one woman to hospital in Winnipeg after the crash, a spokesperson for STARS said. The spokesperson said the crash was a T-bone collision.

Alcohol isn't believed to be a factor in the collision and it is unknown if seatbelts were in use, RCMP said.

The investigation continues.
