One person is dead and two others are injured following a car crash Saturday morning, according to Peel Regional Police.
The initial collision involved two vehicles, one travelling westbound on Sandalwood Parkway and the other traveling southbound on Hurontario Street, according to Duty Insp. Stephen Duivesteyn of Peel Regional Police.
The impact of the 5 a.m. crash was so severe that both cars left the roadway.
One landed in a parking lot of a gas station, Duivesteyn said, while the other hit a traffic light which then toppled over.
He said a third vehicle passing through the intersection couldn't escape the "severe" debris on the roadway, prompting a subsequent accident.
One person has died, while two others were taken for treatment.
One person was taken to a nearby hospital, while another was taken to a trauma centre.
Duivesteyn said one person fled the scene and was later arrested for impaired driving.
Investigators remain on the scene Saturday afternoon.
