A man has died and two others were taken to hospital after a single-vehicle crash in Whitby early Friday, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say.

Emergency crews were called to the off-ramp on Highway 401 eastbound to Brock Street around 2:55 a.m. for report of a vehicle rollover.

A 23-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, OPP say. Police say two other passengers — a 23-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman — were taken to hospital in non-life-threatening condition.

The off-ramp to Brock Street will remain closed Friday until road sign repairs are completed by the Ministry of Transportation. The on-ramp and all lanes of Highway 401 in the area are open.

"We're asking motorists to avoid the area if possible, but we are hoping to reopen the ramp shortly," said OPP acting Sgt. Nicola Morris.

An investigation into the collision is now underway, investigators say.
