Person dead after building fire in Toronto's west end

One person is dead after a fire at a two-storey building in the city's west end, according to Toronto Fire Services.

Toronto Fire said they were called to a commercial industrial building at Bloor Street West and Dundas Street West around 2:10 p.m. on Wednesday.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke in the roof area and found one person. Toronto Fire said the person was pulled out of a second-floor window. The age and sex of the victim has not been released.

"Sadly, this person has been reported to be deceased," Toronto Fire said in a tweet..

The main body of the fire was knocked down by 2:30 p.m. The person was found minutes later.

Deputy Fire Chief Jim Jessop said crews brought the fire under control quickly in challenging circumstances.

"I can't thank the women and men of Toronto Fire enough. This was a very complex fire at a very complex building. They made entry very, very quickly," he said.

Capt. Dan Vieira, spokesperson for Toronto Fire, said crews were doing a fire watch on Wednesday night.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
