Ottawa police say one person is dead following a collision between a car and a train in Richmond, in Ottawa's rural southwest.

The collision took place shortly after noon near the intersection of Barnsdale and Eagleson roads, according to police.

The 28-year-old driver of the car died from injuries at the scene, according to a tweet from police.

Police have closed Barnsdale Road from Eagleson Road to Twin Elm Road, and Eagleson Road from Ottawa Street to Perth Street, as the investigation continues.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is sending a team to investigate the collision, according to a news release from the organization.

Via Rail tweeted Wednesday afternoon that one of their trains was involved in the collision, and said no passengers or Via Rail employees were injured.
