1 person dead after driving off road and hitting utility pole, SC highway patrol says

One person is dead following an early morning crash in Orangeburg County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

A 2021 Toyota Camry was headed north on U.S. Highway 301 at about 5 a.m. Saturday when it drove off the right side of the road near Legrand Smoak Road and struck a utility pole, Lance Cpl. Brittany Glover said.

The driver, who was the sole occupant of the car, died at the scene. The Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the driver.

The Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash.
