Boy, 6, dies after being hit by vehicle while riding bike near Taber

A six-year-old boy who was hit by a vehicle while riding his bike near Taber yesterday has died.

According to RCMP, both the child and the driver of the vehicle were travelling north on Range Road 174, just south of Barnwell, Alta., when the collision occurred around 4:40 p.m. on Saturday.

The child was first taken to an area hospital before being airlifted to Calgary, where he succumbed to his injuries.

RCMP said an investigation into the incident continues, but that no charges are pending.

The name of the boy is not being released and Victim Services is assisting the child's family.

An initial report from the RCMP had estimated the boy's age at 10, but was later confirmed as six years old.
