11-year-old boy dies in Charlotte after pickup hits him on road near his school
An 11-year-old boy died Friday after a pickup hit him as he was crossing a road in northwest Charlotte.
The boy, Hendrix Truesdale, was crossing the 1300 block of Gum Branch Road just before 7:30 a.m. when the driver of a 2016 Nissan Frontier hit him, according to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department news release.
The boy was outside of a marked crosswalk, police said. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Impairment and speed were not factors in the crash, according to police, who are continuing to investigate. The driver’s name was not released.
Charlotte Observer news partner WSOC reported that Hendrix was a sixth-grader at Coulwood STEM Academy, which is near Gum Branch Road.
