11-year-old girl dies days after trying to save boy from 'ice related drowning': Police
A girl who was rescued after attempting to save a boy from an "ice-related drowning" in Albany, New York, last weekend has died from her injuries, police said.
Albany Police announced the 11-year-old girl's death on Tuesday night.
On Dec. 7, officers responded to a lake in Washington Park after receiving a report that two juveniles − a girl and a boy − fell through the ice.
Authorities were able to recover the 11-year-old girl, and she was transported to a local hospital. The 12-year-old boy was not immediately located but later found dead.
Police said the Albany City School District has been notified of her death and "will continue to offer support services."

Girl tried to save boy from drowning
The 12-year-old boy's body was recovered from the lake following a secondary search by state law enforcement.
A preliminary investigation revealed the boy attempted to walk north across the lake towards the lake house and fell through the ice.
"It is then believed that the 11-year-old female observed the boy fall through the ice and, in an attempt to help, followed the same path of travel across the lake, where she also fell through the ice," Albany Police stated.
Police, school district send condolences to the children's families
The department has offered condolences to the children's family and friends. The City School District of Albany also released a statement to the community.
"Our hearts go out to the family of this student, who gave their life trying to save their friend," Superintendent Joseph Hochreiter said. "We will remember that selfless courage even as we mourn another unimaginable loss."
