12-year-old fatally hit after dog chases him into road before school, Florida cops say
A 12-year-old boy died after he was hit by a car on the way to a school bus stop, Florida deputies told outlets.
The boy was walking with his brother in Hyde Park, a western suburb of Jacksonville, towards their school bus stop on the morning of Sept. 1, deputies told Jax Today.
Along the way, a loose dog started to chase them, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office deputies told the outlet.
The two boys ran down the side of the road, and one brother stopped, deputies told WJXT.
The 12-year-old boy kept running before stepping into the road and oncoming traffic, deputies told the outlet.
The driver of a Chevrolet Cruze hit the boy, deputies told WTLV.
Paramedics took the boy to the hospital, where he later died, deputies told the outlet.
The driver of the Chevrolet Cruze stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, deputies told outlets.
