13 photos that show how bad Oregon wildfires and air quality really are

Wildfires raging in northern California and southern Oregon have killed at least 36 people as the blazes burn through an area larger than than the state of Connecticut.

Thousands have been impacted by the historic flames as a hot and dry summer has led to a devastating wildfire season.

In Oregon, more than 1 million acres are burning, and two small towns near the California border have been wiped out.

Officials in both states have warned about dangerously unhealthy air quality due to the smoke from the fire. At least 10% of emergency room visits in Oregon are for asthma-like symptoms, said Gabriela Goldfarb, section manager of Environmental Public Health at the Oregon Health Authority.

More: Wildfires burned millions of acres across the West. See what that looks like.
