16-year-old boy killed in overnight motorcycle crash in Dieppe

Train derailment leaks asphalt near Rockhaven, Sask.

A 16-year-old boy is dead after losing control of his motorcycle and crashing into a ditch in Dieppe overnight, police say.

Staff Sgt. Mario Fortin of the Codiac RCMP said the Dieppe teenager, who was last seen Monday night, died at the scene.

The crash wasn't discovered until Tuesday morning, and police said they aren't sure whether the crash killed the teen instantly.

"We're trying to piece now exactly what time the crash occurred," he said. "We know it happened earlier throughout the night."

Fortin said a passerby noticed a person and a motorcycle in the ditch at around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday along Bourque Road near the Chartersville Road.

Police believe that the teen, who owned the motorcycle, was the only one on it when it crashed.

"The bike went off the road basically," he said. "Likely, [the motorcycle] would have lost control to end up in the ditch."

Fortin said police don't suspect anything suspicious in the teen's death, but they're continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.

Fortin said the teen's family has been notified.
