16-year-old killed in Kentucky crash that left 2 dead, another injured

Two individuals have been killed and a third seriously injured in a fatal car crash that occurred in Knox County early Sunday morning, according to Kentucky State Police.

According to state police, officers were called to a three vehicle collision on US 25E in the Bimble community of Knox County. At the scene, Fredrick Cody Carnes, 23, and a 16-year-old male from Girdler were killed in the crash which took place around 12 a.m.

A 17-year-old female in was flown to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for her injuries. Her condition was unknown later Sunday morning.

A state police trooper responded along with the Knox County Sheriff’s Department who began an investigation.

Initial investigation indicated Carnes, driving a 2001 green Toyota Tacoma, was traveling north in the southbound lanes when a head-on collision occurred with a white 2018 Dodge Charger with the 16 and 17-year-olds in the car, according to a state police news release.

Carnes and the 16-year-old male were pronounced dead at the scene by Mike Blevins, the Knox County coroner.

A third vehicle, a blue 2001 Chevrolet S10 driven by a 41-year-old man, was also traveling south in the right lane. His vehicle was struck by the 2018 Dodge Charger and he attempted to avoid the collision. He didn’t sustain any injuries, according to the release.

The collision was still under investigation by detective Jake Middleton later Sunday morning. State police did not suspect drugs or alcohol to be involved.
