17-year-old arrested for murder in what police say is the first Tacoma homicide of 2025

Detectives with the Tacoma Police Department arrested a 17-year-old for second-degree murder on Friday, Jan. 10, 2025.

A 17-year-old man was taken into custody Friday and booked into Remann Hall for murder in the second degree after police responded to a man fatally shot in the 4800 block of North 18th Street early Thursday morning, according to a Tacoma Police Department news release. The incident was Tacoma’s first homicide of 2025.

Evidence obtained at the crime scene led detectives to identify the 17-year-old as a suspect in the case, according to police.

At around 2:30 a.m. Thursday officers responded to a report of shots fired and a man lying in the street. Upon arrival police and Tacoma Fire Department personnel found a man with multiple gunshot wounds and attempted life-saving measures, but he was declared dead at the scene, according to police.

A call left to the Tacoma Police Department for further information was not immediately returned to The News Tribune as of early Saturday.
