17km of roads get $593k rehab

STRATHROY-CARADOC - Roads across the municipality will be blocked off for much-needed rehabilitation this summer after a $592,485 tender from Cornell Construction Ltd. was approved at the July 4 council meeting.

That is almost $150,000 over the tar and chip budget, but works out to almost exactly what was left over from last year’s tar and chip program that will now be spent this year.

There are 17 km of roads that will get tender loving care. They were chosen based on a joint study with Middlesex County and neighbour municipalities that took a look at which road was in the roughest shape.

Director of engineering and public works Jake Straus said depending on how it all works out, the last road on the list may not get work done this year, or more roads could be added. They will find out when the rubber -- or rather the emulsion and aggregates -- hit the road.

The roads and lengths to be done in order of priority are the following:

1) Inadale Drive – Melbourne Road to Adelaide Road (5km)

2) Falconbridge Drive – Glen Oak Road to Rougham Road (7.5km)

3) Century Drive – Christina Road to Adelaide Road (2km)

4) Parkhouse Drive – Christina Road to Rougham Road (2.5km).
