Provincial police say one person is dead following a five-car collision on Highway 401 near Kingston, Ont., Wednesday evening.

Emergency crews were called to the "chain reaction" crash in the area of Joyceville Road around 7:40 p.m. after a tractor-trailer collided with another vehicle that was "slowing down or stopped in a construction zone," according to an OPP news release.

Investigators said three more vehicles collided following the initial crash, including one that was rear-ended, resulting in back injuries for two occupants.

A section of the highway was closed for roughly 15 hours, reopening shortly before 10 a.m. Thursday.

Police have not released any information on charges, but said they are expected.
