One person is dead after an overnight fire at a Brampton home that has also left an adult and a child in life-threatening condition.

Peel Regional Police said emergency crews were called to a home in the area of Jade Crescent and Jayfield Road at 10:56 p.m. on Friday for report of a fire.

Brampton Fire Platoon Chief Michael Waite said firefighters were met with "heavy fire conditions" on arrival.

Waite said the blaze was upgraded to a two-alarm fire with roughly 25 to 30 firefighters on scene.

Fire crews found one person with injuries outside of the home and located two people still inside the home.

Police said two adults and one child were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. One of the adults died in hospital, police said Saturday.

The child is in critical but stable condition and the adult remains in critical condition, police said Saturday.

"Brampton Fire and Emergency Services (BFES) and the City extends its deepest condolences to the individual's family and friends during this time," City of Brampton spokesperson Natalie Stogdill said in an email to CBC Toronto.

Michele Francis, a resident in the neighbourhood, says she was home when a neighbour came knocking on her door to alert others of the fire.

"It was kind of scary .. just a big blaze and [it] was very smoky," Francis said.

It was 'pretty scary,' neighbour says

Another resident, Jiancarlo Vasile, said he had just returned home when he saw the "big cloud of smoke."

"I ran to the neighbour, knocking the door, rang the doorbell, and said 'you gotta get out of the house because the other house is engulfed in flames,'" he said.

Vasile said it was all "pretty scary."

"The flame was pretty high, the smoke was pretty intense, I couldn't even breathe, so I got the guy out really quick," Vasile said.

The fire was knocked down at approximately 11:20 p.m.

The Ontario Fire Marshal's office has been notified and is investigating.
