2 dead in Monday Highway 402 crash near Sarnia
Two people died in a crash on Highway 402 near Sarnia on Monday that sent another person to hospital with serious injuries, OPP report.
Lambton County OPP said in a media statement officers responded shortly before 2 p.m. Monday for a report of a multi-car crash near Modeland Road.
Prov. Const. Jamie Bydeley told CBC News the crash involved multiple commercial and passenger vehicles.
When police, EMS and Sarnia Fire arrived, the driver and passenger of one vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene.
Another person had what police describe as serious injuries and was taken to hospital. There was no update on their injuries Tuesday afternoon.
OPP West Region traffic management experts attended to assist with the ongoing investigation.
The westbound lanes of Highway 402 were closed for nearly 12 hours while investigators worked. The road has since been re-opened. Anyone with dash cam footage or information is asked to contact Lambton County OPP.
Bydeley said while the cause of the crash was still under investigation, OPP are cautioning drivers ahead of the long weekend to watch for and adhere to the "big four" of road safety with some general tips: Wear a seatbelt, avoid drinking and driving, adhere to the speed limit and do not stunt drive.
