2 dead in rollover near Meadow Lake

2 dead in early morning house fire in Hudson Bay, Sask.

Two people died and several others were injured following a rollover in a field north of Meadow Lake, Sask., early Saturday morning, RCMP say.

According to RCMP at around 2:40 a.m. CST officers were on Highway 4, about four kilometres north of the community, attending to another call when they noticed a vehicle had rolled in a field about 60 to 70 metres east of the road.

The officers reached the vehicle and found some people inside the vehicle and others who appeared to have been ejected.

Meadow Lake fire and ambulance crews were called and the injured people were taken to the hospital.

RCMP said the driver of the vehicle – a 20-year-old man – died at the scene. Another person who died in the crash – a 19-year-old man – was found when an RCMP crash specialist was using a aerial drone to investigate the scene. RCMP said it is believed the man was ejected from the vehicle in the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene, RCMP said.

Autopsies were ordered and the crash remains under investigation.

RCMP said the three people who survived the crash were a 22-year-old man and two girls, aged 15 and 16.

All individuals are from the Meadow Lake area about 296 kilometres northwest of Saskatoon.
