Two people are dead following an early morning crash on Highway 400 north of Barrie.

Two people are dead following an early morning accident on a busy stretch of cottage country highway.

According to Ontario Provincial Police, two people were killed by a tractor-trailer north of Barrie, Ont. The crash, which happened around 6 a.m., closed Highway 400 between Mount St. Louis Road and Moonstone Road, about one hour north of Toronto.

It is believed that the two victims were working on a disabled tractor-trailer, which was being hooked to a tow truck when they were hit by a passing truck.

The stretch of highway is expected to be closed for several hours for the investigation.
