2 killed in early Sunday morning shooting and collision in Bonney Lake area, cops say

This story has been updated with new information.

Two people were killed early Sunday morning after a stolen trailer prompted a pursuit and an exchange of gunfire in the Bonney Lake area, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department announced.

Around 6:50 a.m., the occupants of a white pick up truck allegedly stole a trailer from the Prairie Ridge area, then were pursued by the occupants of a gold truck, according to the announcement.

The two vehicles then crashed and shots were fired at the intersection of Rhodes Lake Road East and Falling Water Boulevard East.

“We believe they exchanged gunfire possibly during the chase and at the final collision scene,” Pierce County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Darren Moss said.

Pierce deputies as well as Sumner, Orting and Bonney Lake police arrived at the scene and found a severely injured man in the back seat of the white truck and a dead man on the ground next to it. The severely injured man later died at an area hospital.

The man found dead next to the truck is believed to be the driver of the gold truck, Moss said.

The following happened after the shooting:

Orting and Sumner police were able to track down and locate a male suspect on 193rd Avenue East. He was a passenger in the gold truck, according to Moss.

A woman who ran from the vehicles was seen by neighbors walking through several yards. The woman was located by Bonney Lake and Sumner Police on a trail behind Victor Falls Elementary School. She was a passenger in the white truck, Moss said.

Deputies are still looking for one more man, thought to be the driver of the white truck, who ran from the scene, according to Moss. That man also may have been shot, he said.

The case is still under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department or Tacoma/Pierce County CrimeStoppers at 800-222-8477.
