Two men from the Maritimes have given a new meaning to the term late night couch surfing.

Police in Miramichi, N.B., say they have arrested two men for allegedly riding a couch towed by an ATV through a McDonald’s drive-thru.

The two men were arrested last Thursday morning after the driver of the four-wheeler apparently ditched the duo at the drive-thru once authorities were in sight, according to police.

“When (the officer) put his lights on, of course he took off, the four-wheeler did, with the sofa still attached. But he left his two passengers from the sofa at the drive-thru,” Cpl. Lorri McEachern told The Canadian Press.

“The two passengers from the sofa, or the couch, or whatever you want to call it, were intoxicated.”

The ATV reportedly made a long journey travelling from the parking lot, across a highway and onto a frozen river with the couch behind it for most of ride.

The two men are locals and are aged 28 and 39, respectively, The Canadian Press reported in a CTV News article. It is not yet clear what charges they will be facing.

McEachern noted that even though the two men were wearing helmets, it is still against the law for a couch to be towed through a drive-thru.

The driver of the four-wheeler got away, but police managed to find and seize the ATV. Authorities are now looking for the driver.
