Roads reopen, power restored in part of Centre County after Thursday night storm

Rolling thunderstorms caused flooding and damage across Centre County on Thursday night, leading to two county roads that closed for more than 12 hours and hundreds of residents without power for most of Friday.

According to a PennDOT news release, Route 2011 (Coburn Road/Penn Street) and Route 2018 (Pine Creek Road) in the Coburn area were closed for more than 12 hours due to “downed trees in utility wires.” They reopened by 3:15 p.m. Friday.

In and around the Coburn area, at least four neighborhoods lost power, according to a chart from West Penn Power. After an estimated 366 were without power throughout Friday, more than 100 customers were still without power as of 7:20 p.m., with some expected to see power return around 9:30 p.m.

Centre County Emergency Management posted on Facebook that information about residential damage from Thursday’s storms is being collected to send to PEMA. Those who experienced damage may call 814-355-6745 Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. or email eoc@centrecountypa.gov.

AccuWeather is calling for more thunderstorms Saturday, with flash flooding and localized damaging winds possible.
