22-year-old’s body was found in a well and the death is called suspicious by SC coroner

A 22-year-old South Carolina man’s body was found in a well over the weekend, and his death is called suspicious by the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office.

The remains of Andrew Gazdovich were found Sunday in a well on McSwain Road in Chesnee, according to the coroner’s office. That’s about 6 miles from Gazdovich’s Inman residence.

Coroner Rusty Clevenger said no cause of death has been determined, and his office has ordered an autopsy, which will require more testing before both the cause and the manner of death can be finalized.

“The case is definitely being treated as suspicious,” Clevenger said.

The coroner’s office is continuing to investigate the death along with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, which said it’s not releasing much information because the investigation is ongoing.

There sheriff’s office did say “at this stage of the investigation, the recovered evidence doesn’t suggest foul play.”

But the sheriff’s office is asking for the public’s help with information about Gazdovich’s death.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Sgt. Jon Guest at 864-503-4595, or email him at jguest@spartanburgcounty.org.

Gazdovich is survived by his parents as well as a brother and sister among other family members, according to an obituary shared by Roberts Funeral Home.

A funeral service for Gazdovich will be held on Friday at Roberts Funeral Home Chapel, followed by his burial at Good Shepherd Memorial Park, according to the obituary.
