Thessy Kouzoukas is a 27-year-old woman who suffers from endometriosis — a condition that occurs when tissue, similar to the lining of the uterus, grows on the outside of the womb.

Kouzoukas opened up about her condition saying she was “sent into menopause” after treatment stopped the production of estrogen in her body.

The Australian fashion designer shared an update after suffering a ruptured ovarian cyst — one of the many painful side effects of the illness.

“This is quite shocking to people. This is me. This is endometriosis,” she wrote. “I never intended to share these photos hence why I’m naked, but my god I can’t believe the amount of DMs I’ve received from girls who have endo too and feel alone.”

One in 10 women are affected by endometriosis, but it is seldom talked about in mainstream society, which is why Kouzoukas urges women experiencing unusual abdominal pain to see their doctor.

“Please, spread the word about endo. And If you know anyone with bad period pain please tell them to get checked for this,” she said. “Endo is no joke.”

Kouzoukas’s condition is kept under control with help from a drug called Synarel. It works to reduce the amount female sex hormones being released into her body.

Since sharing her story online, Kouzoukas’ post has been liked more than 10,000 times, helping raise awareness just as she intended.
